The Hollies, at 21 Sutton Road, Shrewsbury, has been marketed as a potential residential development by its current owner, Shropshire Council.

Proceeds from the sale of the three storey building, which dates back to the 1860s, will go back into the authority's coffers and can then be used as part of its capital programme.

The site is advertised as "located in the prime residential location of the Shrewsbury Conservation Area, approximately 1.5 miles from Shrewsbury town centre."

As well as the main building the site includes an adjoining former stable/mews, while attached to the rear of the building is a two storey extension, constructed later.

The sale comes after the council transferred its county training services to Shirehall earlier this year.

Steph Jackson, head of commercial services with Shropshire Council, said the authority expects the property to be of interest to developers looking to create a residential development.

She said: "Last August, after more than 20 years of being based at The Hollies, Shropshire Council's County Training team moved out of the building and relocated to Shirehall and The Gateway.

"With the building now empty, the council has put it up for sale with a guide price of £1 million. All proceeds will be invested in the council's capital programme.

"We anticipate that The Hollies site will be of interest to developers for residential redevelopment, although – with some much-needed refurbishment - it could continue to be used for offices and/or training."

County Training, which is part of Shropshire Council, has been established for 35 years, providing learning, employment and training services to customers across the area.

As the largest private training provider in Shropshire it has recruited 5,000 apprentices for local employers since 1998.

The organisation provides a whole range of qualifications, incuding English, Maths, brewing, business and administration, childcare, education, computer-aided design (CAD), customer service, hair and barbering, health and social care, equine, hospitality and catering, IT, motor vehicles, management, and warehouse and storage.
