Primary school league tables: Shropshire schools celebrating 100% success

Eight schools from across the Shropshire Council area were today celebrating after seeing all of their pupils achieve 100 per cent success in the three Rs.

The schools all saw their key stage two children achieve level four or above in reading, writing and maths.

They were Bryn Offa Primary School near Oswestry, Claverley Primary School near Bridgnorth, Condover Primary School near Shrewsbury, Criftins Primary School near Ellesmere, and Moreton Say Primary School near Market Drayton.

They also included Myddle Primary School near Wem, St Mary's Primary School in Bucknell, and Shifnal Primary School.

Key to results:

A: Number of pupils eligible for assessment in National Curriculum Stage 2 tests.

B: Percentage of pupils achieving Level Four and above in reading.

C: Percentage of pupils achieving Level Four and above in Maths.

D: Percentage of pupils achieving Level Four and above in Reading, Maths and Writing.

E: School ranking within its own Local Education Authority

The region's highest ranked school is Shifnal, followed by last year's top-ranked school Condover.

But this year's league tables won't make such good reading for schools such as Chirbury Primary School near Montgomery, Cockshutt Primary School near Ellesmere, and Tilstock Primary School, near Whitchurch, which all achieved scores of 60 per cent or less of pupils getting level four.

This year's lowest-ranked schools are Stiperstones Primary School and St Mary's Primary School in Westbury, near Shrewsbury.

The rankings reveal the performance of about 16,000 primaries in national curriculum tests in reading and maths, as well as teacher assessments of pupils' writing skills.

The results, when compared to the other 13 local authorities in the West Midlands, place Shropshire second in reading, third in writing and second in mathematics. When compared to 10 other similar local authorities Shropshire was ranked first in reading, third in writing and second in mathematics.

Karen Bradshaw, Shropshire Council's director of children's services, praised the efforts of children, teachers, schools and Shropshire's wider school communities for their hard work

She said: "It is always pleasing when children's achievement can be celebrated. We have highly committed school staff who ensure that children get the best possible start to their education.

"While the levels they achieve in reading, writing and mathematics are only part of the picture, it is good to see Shropshire again riding high in the West Midlands."
