Dig it? Back to the 70s at Telford bistro

Not only is the restaurant themed like a 1970s movie – with lava lamps, sideboards and patterned wall paper – but the food is also inspired by flavours that were popular at suburban dinner parties.

And the music will also take you back to the decade of flares and big hair.

The Good Times Bistro, at High Street, in Madeley, has proved to be a recipe for success for owner Pam Clewley, who says the restaurant has been a hit with locals.

She said: "There's nothing like Good Times in Shropshire. We do what we say: give people a Good Time."

Pam previously worked as an accountant but said her family had decided to follow its dream by creating a restaurant.

She said: "We're an independent restaurant and there's a really homely feel to the place. A lot of our customers say that when they come here it's like going round to a friend's for dinner, rather than going to a restaurant.

"We're not impersonal or distant with the guests. We genuinely want them to have a good time and we genuinely care that they're enjoying the experience.

"Things like the lava lamps and the 1970s soundtrack – with James Brown and plenty of great tunes – adds to the ambience.

"The restaurant has been styled as though it's the 1970s. People love taking a walk down memory lane and younger customers like to see what things were like."

Pam added that the menu featured starters like prawn cocktail, French onion soup with port and pate, while mains featured chicken Cordon Blue, steak in pepper sauce and pork fillet schnitzel.

There are also 1970s-inspired desserts, including waffles with ice cream and lemon meringue pie.

Pam said: "We're delighted that people enjoy what we do, it really means the world to us."
