It follows a forecast that predicts more wet and uncertain weather moving into this week.

Barriers were put up this morning at Frankwell in Shrewsbury – as the River Severn running through the area is expected to rise by up to 1.5 metres.

Some roads were blocked in Maesbrook as the River Vyrnwy spilled over its banks.

Flood alerts were issued by the Environment Agency (EA) following around three inches of rain falling over Snowdonia, near the River Severn catchment area, since the middle of last week.

Dave Throup, spokesman for the EA, said this heavy rainfall had lead to a series of flood alerts and warnings being issued across Shropshire and Mid Wales.

People in the Melverley area were told to expect fields and low lying roads to flood.

The EA issued flood warnings for the River Vyrnwy at Melverley and Maesbrook and lesser, flood alerts, for the River Severn in Shropshire and Powys, peaking in Shrewsbury tomorrow.

Flood alerts were also put in place the confluence between the River Severn and River Vyrnwy.

It came as experienced incident staff from the EA in Shropshire were sent to areas in Lancashire and Cumbria to help out due to bad floods.

A total of 12 severe warnings across both areas remain in place.
