Investigations are still ongoing as to the source of the pollution in the Old Canal in Coalport and the area remains taped off to prevent anyone walking along the sides of the canal, with signs in place informing residents and visitors that the water is contaminated.

Paul Gossage, a spokesman for the Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust, which includes the Coalport China Museum and the Tar Tunnel which are both on the sides of the canal, said they were continuing to help with the investigations.

He said: "There is contamination in the water, we are working with a number of agencies including Telford & Wrekin Council's environment team, Severn Trent Water and others to identify the source which we still haven't found.

"Once we have identified the problem we can start to look towards a solution.

"We are aware of the problem and we are doing as much as we can and as fast as we can."
