Alarms were set off at McDonald's, on Forge Retail Park, when the carbon dioxide started leaking at around 5am this morning.

A manager at McDonald's, who did not want to be named, said there were no customers in the restaurant, which is open 24-hours a day, at the time.

She said the machine was switched off and an engineer was sent out to repair it later on Sunday.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "The problem appears to have been with a canister in one of the drinks machines.

"The alarms were going off and staff were advised to wait outside until it went off."
