Nicola Scott and Robert Hughes visited baby Little Mariam Adamu at her home in Hadley, Telford – just two weeks after they had to help deliver her when her mother went into early labour.

Mum Aisha Adamu went into labour on the day of her 35th birthday and the baby had to be delivered by dad Abdul Nasser Adamu, and the two passing police officers, on the pavement outside the family home in Pool Meadow.

Constable Scott said: "All I can say is it is fantastic to see the baby again and to hold her. We saw that she was doing well and were able to speak to both parents.

"For Rob and I it is a fantastic moment in our careers and we were so happy to see them all again."

It was luck that the two officers were passing the home at the time that Mrs Adamu had rushed outside to find the taxi that had been called to take her to hospital.

The pair were driving past in a car when Mr Adamu flagged then down.

Constable Scott said she initially thought he might be lost but he explained that his wife was in labour.

She then helped to reassure Mrs Adamu and keep little Mariam warm, while Constable Hughes ran to neighbouring homes to get towels and more assistance. The officers have since kept in touch with the family.

Mrs Adamu said: "I would like to thank the police officers very much, God bless them for coming to our aid."

The family, who also have three older children, seven-year-old Adel, four-year-old Nabila and 17-month-old Saada are originally from Ghana but have also lived in Spain and Norway. They moved to Telford in August.
