James Morgan is alleged to have hurled abuse at brothers Daniel, Paul and Joshua Mackintosh and friends while in his car, before coming back and striking the brothers with the baton and driving off.

Morgan, 26, of Clive Gardens, Market Drayton, denies six counts relating to grievous bodily harm, assault and possessing an offensive weapon. The alleged attack took place in Shropshire Street, Market Drayton, on November 16 2013.

Giving evidence at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday, Paul Mackintosh said on their way to a minibus a car stopped alongside them and at that point felt as though he was being stared at by the driver.

The driver, said to be Morgan, hurled abuse at the group and at one point asked them if they knew who he was.

After that he drove off and the group walked on but moments later they noticed someone swaying and staggering around. He got closer to the group and went on to attack them with a metal baton.

The court heard how before driving off, Morgan shouted out his name and boasted that he did that alone to the group.

Following the incident, Morgan was identified by the brothers at an identity parade.

The trial continues.
