Lisa Hallam, of Cabin Lane, Oswestry, admitted driving a vehicle after consuming four glasses of wine when she appeared at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 47-year-old was fined £1,030 and ordered to pay costs of £85, a surcharge of £103 and court costs of £150.

She was disqualified from driving for 28 months.

The court heard that on the evening of August 30, Miss Hallam, who works for a pharmaceutical company had been enjoying a social event at Oswestry Cricket Club when she realised she needed to return home to get some medication.

Despite drinking four glasses of wine, she got behind the wheel of her Range Rover Evoque but was spotted by an eagle-eyed motorist who called the police.

Mrs Abbie Hall, prosecutor said: "The motorist called the police and stood with the defendant until they arrived.

"A roadside breath test gave a reading of 117microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath."

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 mililitres of breath.

Mrs Hall continued: "She was taken to the police station and in interview said that she suffered from Crohn's disease and, realising she was without her medication, decided to drive home to get it."

Stephen Oldham for Hallam said that she was extremely upset at attending court and was sorry for what she had done.

"She accepts she should not have gone to get her medication," Mr Oldham told the court.

"She does not put forward any justification for her actions.

"She has let herself down, her family down and her work colleagues down," he added.
