Letter: Spare forest and put windfarms out at sea

With reference to David Thorp's letter on green power. Gas produces carbon dioxide when burnt and I thought that is what the whole global warming and reduction of same resulting in the need for renewable sources to produce energy was all about.

I certainly do not agree with the destruction of Clocaenog Forest for a windfarm. As a site with such diverse wildlife that includes crossbills, red squirrels, dormice and wild Przewalski horses the Welsh Assembly along with Natural Resources Wales should hang their heads in shame for even thinking about using this area for such a project.

Ed Davey, the former Secretary of State for Energy, should also be taken to task. Other projects that destroy similar areas should also be stopped.

The place for windfarms is offshore where they will do least environmental damage. They are going to play a part of supplying our energy needs, but need to be built to preserve sites such as Clocaenog.

I am afraid that the same ethos as this development will be used to push through the fracking industry with nil regard to the environmental cost. Yes we need to ensure our energy needs for the future but at what cost to the local environment now and for future generations.

After all each generation are custodians of this world for the next.
