Scottish rockers The Proclaimers brought down the curtain on Shrewsbury Flower Show in front of thousands of fans.

The band, famous for hits including I'm Gonna Be (500 miles) and Letter from America, performed in front of up to 15,000 people before the popular show came to a close with a spectacular fireworks display on Saturday night.

Lead singer and guitarist Charlie Reid admitted he was not sure what to expect when the band agreed to close the event.

"We heard it was a flower show with show jumping and food stands so we wouldn't have been surprised to be playing in a tent in front of 100 people," he said.

"There must have been about 15,000 people dancing away on Saturday night so it was a really nice surprise."

Scottish twins Charlie and Craig, who formed the band in 1983, brought an end to another hugely successful two-day event, with visitor numbers expected to top the 50,000 mark following a busy second day.

Charlie said the band had previously performed at Shrewsbury Folk Festival and at Theatre Severn but would love to return to the "pretty town".
