Shropshire Book Club: Verdict by readers on new titles

It's not always easy finding a book to keep you gripped until the very end.

And that's what members of the Shropshire Star Book Club were today debating as they gave their views on the first two releases.

Chippy worker Paige Wilson and her colleague Kully Bobarai snapped up the chance to read An Unwilling Accomplice, the latest from the pen of Charles Todd, the New York Times best-selling author.

The book also happens to be linked with Shropshire, with the beautiful Iron Bridge featuring prominently on the cover of this latest novel.

Miss Wilson, 20, who works at Ketley Cod in Telford, said: "I only got a little bit into it and I stopped reading. It's not really my thing, I prefer things a bit more modern and very action-packed."

However, she added: "Book clubs are a good idea as they spread the word about something exciting."

Her colleague Kully Bobarai also read the book and said he enjoyed its link to the Iron Bridge. The novel centres around World War I battlefield nurse Bess Crawford's career, which is in jeopardy when a murder is committed on her watch

Children at Madeley Academy jumped on board the Book Club.

They broke up for the summer holidays with a copy of Fire Colour One by Jenny Valentine, a novel targeted at teenagers with the promise of page-turning twists.

Exclusive first chapters from both books were put on the Star's website to give you a taste of the books at the launch of the the club. We want you to provide your thoughts on them as part of an online and in-paper forum.
