Homes near Oswestry hit by burglars

Police are warning residents in a Shropshire village to be alert after a spate of burglaries while residents were away on holiday.

Burglars hit five houses in Pant, near Oswestry, in the space of four days.

Between 8.15am on Friday and 8pm on Sunday, a house in Brooklyn Road was broken into and jewellery stolen. The incident reference is 0727s of August 9.

On Sunday, two houses were targeted. A neighbour who was keeping an eye on a house in Rockwell Lane reported that the property had been broken into. The incident reference is 0331s of August 9. And at 4am the same day, security lights were activated at a house in Lavender Hill.

The family were away and a neighbour alerted police. Torchlight was seen and figures were seen in the garden but no break-in was reported. The incident number is 0180s of August 9.

On Monday a householder returning from holiday to his house in Rectory Lane found it had been broken into. The police reference is 0333s of August 10.

And a house in Penygarreg Rise was broken into overnight between Monday and Tuesday. The incident was reported by a neighbour while the occupants were away. The police reference is 0120s of August 11.

West Mercia Police said residents are being urged to make sure no valuables are left on display.
