Llanfyllin Post Office on High Street will close at noon on August 29. It will be replaced by a till at the nearby Spar store three days later.

Post Office bosses say the move will allow customers to use services seven days a week while the shop is open. They say opening hours for post office services will increase by almost 50 hours a week.

The move has been broadly welcomed by people in the town, according to the area's county councillor Peter Lewis.

Will Russell, regional manager for the Post Office, said: "As with any other branch, we have robust security procedures in place, and anyone handling Post Office transactions, including new staff, will be fully trained on all operational and service issues, including customer privacy.

"Opening hours, which will increase by almost 50 hours a week, will ensure that the branch is more convenient, as people will now have more choice of when to visit. Local residents and small business customers will be able to access the wide range of Post Office and mails services."

The post office services at the store will be open from September 1 from 6am to 9.30pm from Monday to Saturday and 8.30am to 9pm on Sunday.
