Gareth Jones was jailed for three years after a court heard he sold drugs on the streets to fund his own addiction.

Officers who raided his home in Oswestry found quantities of heroin and crack cocaine hidden within the egg.

The court heard police went to Jones' address in Queen Elizabeth Close on May 9 last year and recovered the drugs from the bathroom.

Mr Philip Beardwell, prosecuting, said that inside the Kinder egg there were 19 separate wraps of Class A drugs worth about £180 on the street. Of those14 contained crack cocaine and the other five were heroin.

Jones' mobile phone was seized and police discovered a series of text messages relating to the supply of drugs.

Mr Beardwell said that Jones had sent messages saying he had B and W for sale. B relates to 'brown' which is slang for heroin, and W is 'white' which is crack cocaine.

Initially Jones had denied selling drugs and claimed they were for his own use and had told police he was a member of a coven and the B and W were codes for black magic and white magic.

Jones, 39, appeared for sentence at Shrewsbury Crown Court having admitted two offences of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.

Judge Robin Onions said he accepted Jones had no financial gain and was feeding his own addiction.

He said he also accepted that Jones was acting as a runner for others and advised the defendant to work to resolve his drug addiction while in prison.

It is not the first time that Kinder Eggs have been linked to the concealing of drugs.

It was revealed in April that capsules from the chocolate treats were being used to smuggle drugs into a prison in Shropshire. Prisoner Rian Protheroe met up with a contact at Shrewsbury railway station while on day release to receive cannabis which he later concealed in the capsules at a fast food restaurant in the town, Shrewsbury Crown Court was told. The 28-year-old, of Alders Lane in Whixall, near Whitchurch, admitted charges of possessing cannabis with intent to supply and received an eight month sentence suspended for 12 months.

And in 2014, a Midlands drug dealer who was caught red-handed with crack and heroin hidden in a Kinder Egg was jailed for three years.

Ikram Razaq, 19, was stopped in Oldbury, near Birmingham, when police discovered we was carrying drugs that were concealed within a Kinder Egg capsule.
