Three-lorry smash causes traffic chaos on A5 at Oswestry and A483 into Mid Wales

A serious crash involving three lorries caused long tailbacks and delays on the A5 and A483 near Oswestry - and police have this afternoon confirmed part of the A483 will be closed until 6am Saturday morning for unrelated repairs.

The busy A5 was closed between the Mile End Roundabout and the Whittington Roundabout after the crash, with long tailbacks on the A483 between Llynclys and Llanymynech in Powys as a result.

The crash caused widespread disruption as many headed to Mid Wales and the coast on the first day of the school summer holidays.

Police say the ambulance service was not needed for the lorry crash and that there were no injuries.

The A5 has now reopened and delays are easing.

Oswestry police confirmed that the A483 will also be closed between Oswestry and Llynclys from 9pm tonight until tomorrow morning for emergency repairs to the road.
