The motorist is believed to have lost control of his silver Honda and gone down an embankment before hitting the house. He suffered minor injuries and was left shaken following the crash.

Part of the door frame of the house was damaged and the gas meter was destroyed, but it is believed no-one was inside at the time.

The accident happened on Chockleys Drive, Leegomery, Telford, at about 1pm yesterday.

Ben Partridge was visiting his grandparents in the area when he saw the crashed car. The 17-year-old, from Wem, said: "I was driving when I saw the car and thought it looked horrendous.

"It looked as though the driver lost control and went down an embankment before crashing through a bush and then into the house.

"There were huge chunks of concrete missing from the pavement as well. From what I saw it's amazing no-one was seriously injured."

The property is owned by Wrekin Housing Trust, which will carry out repairs to the house.

Kieren Bodill, of West Mercia Police, said: "The police were called at 1pm about a car which had gone into a single-storey property in Telford.

"A man, who is believed to be the driver, is helping police establish exactly what happened before the car collided with the property. The man only suffered minor injures, and no-one was in the property at the time."

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact police by calling 101 and quoting incident number 336s of July 16.
