A woman has been hailed as a "wedding saviour" after picking up three hitch hiking bridesmaids and delivering them safely to their ceremony after their car broke down.

The bridesmaids were on their way to the wedding of Bethany and Dave Mouatt in Trevor, near Llangollen, when their car broke down on the A483.

They were rescued when Bethan Young, from Llangollen, pulled up to help – but she left the wedding before the happy couple could say thank you or even get her full name.

Mrs Mouatt, formally Unwin, said: "There had been a few dilemmas leading up to the wedding day, including the taxis booked for the bridesmaids turning up a little late.

"In a fluster, we all started our journey to the venue, Tower Hill Barns. I got in to my wedding car and was waving to the others as they passed.

"We got a little further up the road and all I could see was three of my bridesmaids and my mum standing at the side of the road and my heart just sank.

"I didn't have my phone with me and there was nothing I could do, so I spent the following 15 minutes panicking about what was going on not knowing what was about to unfold."

The taxi driver radioed for a replacement but the trio of bridesmaids, Sarah Worthington, Shelley Wragg, Emily Pearson, and Bethany's mum, Barbara Unwin, weren't prepared to wait the 30 minutes for another car and decided to hitch hike to the wedding.

Mrs Mouatt said: "Obviously I was unaware of what was going on until I got to the venue and heard that they were on their way.

"A woman called Bethan had kindly stopped and brought them all to the venue.

"My dad just ran out of the wedding car and went and grabbed her a bottle of bubbly to say thank you but I couldn't get out of the car because of my dress so I couldn't thank her in person."

The couple, who live in Cefn-Y-Bedd, turned to Facebook to track down Miss Young and thank her properly, with the post shared more than 38,000 times before the power of social media finally found her on Sunday.

"I would really like to thank her for coming to the rescue and making my day," Mrs Mouatt said.

"She was on her way to collect her engagement ring and funnily enough, her partner was one of the joiners who worked on the barn where we were to be married, it was like fate."
