Alistair Taylor, aged 20, from Victoria Avenue in Wellington, was arrested on Saturday afternoon and appeared at Telford Magistrates Court this morning.

No plea was entered and magistrates refused jurisdiction. Taylor was remanded in custody to appear at Shrewsbury Crown on September 14.

A 19-year-old man arrested shortly after the incident was released without charge.

The incident led to the closure of Victoria Road after a suspicious package was taken to Wellington Police Station by a member of the public who discovered it further up Victoria Road near the entrance to the Wellington Medical Practice.

Bomb disposal units were called and there were two controlled explosions at the scene.

Nearby residents were evacuated from their homes to the nearby Tesco store.

Businesses in the area were also forced to close for the morning.

Police continue to appeal for information regarding the incident, especially from people who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Victoria Road area late Thursday night.
