Forged banknotes woman avoids jail

A woman has avoided a jail sentence after admitting using fake banknotes in Shropshire.

Amy Cottam, 28, admitted using a counterfeit £20 note in Telford on December 24 last year, and being in possession of 23 fake £20 notes.

The offences took place in Superdrug and The Entertainer toyshop in the town centre.

Cottam, of Madin Road in Tipton, West Midlands, pleaded guilty to tendering a counterfeit currency note and having custody or control of counterfeit currency with intent.

She was sentenced at Shrewsbury Crown Court to two consecutive six-month sentences suspended for 17 months.
