Woman punched in the face for loose change in Telford robbery

A woman was punched in the face during a robbery in Telford where a man got away with some loose change.

West Mercia Police are appealing for witnesses to the robbery at the junction of King Street in Dawley.

The robbery happened at about 1am on Saturday morning when the victim, a woman in her fifties, was walking alone. She was approached by a man who demanded money. She refused and was punched to the face several times, sustaining bruising. She then handed over loose change.

A police spokesman said: "The suspect was described as an Asian or missed heritage male, of slim build, around 6" tall and in his late twenties. He was described as having a thin shaped face, with large brown eyes. His hair was short, shaven and brushed forward. He was wearing a waist length 'leather looking jacket' which had a collar, and a zip."

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 455 of July 4.
