The westbound carriageway of the A5 will be shut at night between Junction 7 of the M54 at Wellington and the Preston Boats island on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.

The closure will be in place from 8pm until 6am from today until July 12.

A diversion route will be signposted.

It comes just months after major work reconfiguring the Emstrey and Preston Boats islands was completed several months behind schedule.

Earlier this year a report showed that four per cent of A roads and 10 per cent of B and C roads in Shropshire require maintenance work.

The figures, which form part of the Government's road conditions in England report, also showed 19 per cent of Shropshire's unclassified roads require maintenance work for the period 2013/14.
