Some girls dream of arriving at their summer ball in a horse and carriage or a limousine filled with friends – but not this Telford teenager.

Sixteen-year-old Beth Davies, who went to Lakeside Academy in Stirchley, near Telford, is a self-confessed petrolhead and has a passion for anything with an engine.

So for her special night, her dad Stuart was keen to surprise her with a show-stopping arrival at the school's prom – a Nissan GT-R Skyline car and a motorcycle escort.

Stuart Davies said: "Myself and some of my friends have been bike riders for years.

"But Beth is a petrolhead as well and her dream car is a Nissan GT-R Skyline.

"We were able to arrange for her to be picked up in one, so she was thrilled.

"But we also decided to have a convoy of about 45 bikers, which she didn't know about."

And Mr Davies said he couldn't have asked for a better reaction from his daughter.

He said: "She was very surprised, very overwhelmed, I think. But it was definitely a statement, and I think she likes to be centre of attention – like most girls I think."

The teenager couldn't believe her luck when she was picked up by the powerful convey of engines for her prom on Friday, June 26.

Beth was thrilled her dad and his friends teamed together for the event.

She said: "It really was mind-blowing. I can't thank my dad and everyone else enough for the overwhelming escort – I felt so honoured by it.

"It felt like a fairy tale or a dream come true, I did not want to wake up from it at all. I loved every second of it."

Meanwhile, the Marches School, in Oswestry, staged its first ever prom to great success.

The school opened its sixth-form two years ago and now the first group of students to complete their studies there has celebrated with a night to remember, accompanied by those mid-way though their studies.

Miss Claire Buckle, head of sixth-form, said: "It was a fabulous evening. We are all very proud of our sixth-form and what our students have achieved in the first two years since opening in 2013."

Kira Scott, a Year 12 student, said: "It was a lovely night and a great way to say farewell to Year 13."
