The horses were at the centre of a civil dispute between the owner of Tedsmore Hall at West Felton, Robert Parker and the Tedsmore Equestrian Centre which leased the stables. Up to nine horses were shut in their boxes and their owners told that they must show their horse passports and pay £100 a day plus vets fees for the four days of the legal wrangle. On Thursday, the money was found and the horses were released.

Lisa Ambrose, whose gipsy cob Twinkle was one of the horses involved, said: "We, the owners have had to hand over £1,000 but we have got our horses back."

A spokesman for Tedsmore Equestrian Centre said: "I would like to say big thank you to everybody who has supported us in the last four days, whether in person or on Facebook." Nobody from Tedsmore Hall was available for comment on the release.
