Shropshire dole queues shortest in 10 years

Dole queues in Shropshire got shorter again last month, with the number of people signing on falling to its lowest level in more than 10 years.

The number of people claiming Jobseekers Allowance in Shropshire dropped to 2,014 in May – which reflected a decline of more than 10 per cent from the 2,240 recorded the month before.

Telford & Wrekin also enjoyed a decline in claimants, albeit at a slightly slower rate, with the 1,813 people on JSA down from 1,972 in April.

The latest declines in claimant figures took both local authorities to their lowest levels since November 2004.
