Second boy, 16, arrested in Shrewsbury gun probe

A second teenager has been arrested after two people were seen attempting to force entry into a Shrewsbury building allegedly armed with a gun.

Police tonight said that a 16-year-old boy from Liverpool had been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and of assaulting police.

The boy was arrested this afternoon in Whitchurch and remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

Police were called to the Ditherington area of Shrewsbury at about 6am yesterday and shortly afterwards arrested a 16 year-old boy from the Shrewsbury area, on suspicion of possession of a firearm and of assaulting police. He has today been released on police bail.

A pistol, which is believed to be a replica, was recovered by officers yesterday. It is currently being examined.
