Taxi driver threatened with knife and robbed in Ironbridge

Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery in the Ironbridge where a taxi driver was grabbed by the neck and threatened with a knife.

The incident took place between 10pm and 10.40pm last night when the victim, a taxi driver, picked up a pre-booked fare from The Golden Ball on Newbridge Road in Ironbridge.

A man and woman got into the taxi and after speaking briefly with the victim, the man grabbed his neck from behind and verbally threatened him with a knife, however no knife was seen by the victim during the incident.

The victim handed over a bag of money containing around £50, the male suspect got out of the taxi and kicked the drivers door which prevented the victim from getting out. The woman also then got out of the taxi and they both ran from the scene, down the hill towards Ironbridge.

The victim suffered minor injuries to the head.

The suspects are described as a man and woman aged 25 to 27 and 23 to 25 respectively.

The man is described as around 5'8'' in height of a 'fit' build with very short brown hair. The woman is thought to be around 5'4'' in height, of an average build with dark brown hair.
