Mr Gibbons, from Audlem, near Market Drayton, will appear on the Channel 4 show Benchmark.

The musician, inventor and car enthusiast, who is well known throughout Shropshire for living his life as if he is still in the 1950s, has previously hit the headlines for trying to design his own rocket car.

He has already appeared on shows such as Tipping Point, Catchphrase, The Big Breakfast and GMTV.

Now he will appear on a new programme called Benchmark with Take Me Out and Phoenix Nights star Paddy McGuiness.

He said: "Benchmark is a new show hosted by Paddy McGuiness. It is on weekdays from 4pm until 5pm. I went up to film recently but I do not know when the show I am in will be on TV, so keep an eye out."

The format of Benchmark is one contestant could take home thousands of pounds, with the help from 10 members of the public, also known as "benchmarkers."

In the quiz, the benchmarkers must answer a series of tricky numerical general knowledge questions, their answers set the benchmark and then all the contestant has to do is decide whether the correct answer is higher or lower.

As well as helping, and hopefully not hindering, the benchmarkers are also in their own battle to be top of the leaderboard to play for cash on the next show.

Mr Gibbons added: "The questions were very difficult and I had the added pressure of playing for £25,000.

"After the show I got to meet Paddy McGuiness – he was such a nice guy.

"He was really friendly and took time out of his day to meet me after the show.

"I was very grateful and got my picture taken with him.

"It was a very long but good day out.

"I am looking forward to seeing it on TV now."

Benchmark is on Channel 4 at 4pm every week day.
