Disabled man in row over bin collections on Telford estate

A disabled Telford man today hit out at the council for not collecting his bins, leaving rubbish to build up for weeks.

Adrian Roberts said collectors often mistook his house for another further down the road because it shared the same number but a different road name.

He has been urging councillors for 12 months to put proper signs up outside his home at 16 Newcomen Way, in Woodside, to stop the confusion with bordering address 16 Orient Court.

Mr Roberts, whose wife has also recently had spinal surgery, said despite pointing out the confusing layout, his fortnightly bins were repeatedly missed, forcing him to call the council to rearrange collection.

"I've been fighting this battle for 12 months and I'm getting nowhere fast," he said.

"I just want some sort of sign put out to stop this from happening but no one is listening. According to my neighbour this issue was going on before I moved in 15 months ago.

"I'm being left with my bins, which are only picked up once a fortnight but I can't get any sense out of the council. I need my bins to be out on the road in time for the bin men so they can be taken away.

"The bins can be left for days sometimes and they are only collected once a fortnight.

"It seems strange this has been going on for so long and I can't understand why no one is capable of putting up some sort of signage. Hopefully it will all be sorted out in the near future because it really is proving to be a major hassle."

Telford & Wrekin Council said it was aware of the problem and was looking into it.
