The accident, between a Peugeot 307 and a motorbike, happened at about 7.30pm on Tuesday on the A41 between Albrighton and Codsall, near to the junction with County Lane.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Crews arrived to find a man in cardiac arrest following a collision between a motorbike and a car.

"A number of off duty medics were already on scene and had commenced CPR.

"Ambulance crews then commenced advanced life support, but unfortunately it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

"The driver of the car was uninjured in the incident."

The victim has not been formally identified.

Inspector Ben Hembrey of West Mercia Police, said: "There has been a serious road traffic collision at that location between a car and a motorcycle, and it is a fatal collision.

"At this moment we don't have any more details and the next of kin have yet to be informed."

The road was closed for several hours after the crash.

Passing motorist Mark Andrews said he was at the scene before police and ambulance arrived.

He said: "I was driving along when I found myself in a line of traffic, and somebody knocked on the window and asked if I had a first aid kit.

"Police closed the road and an ambulance arrived and a man was put on a stretcher. There was traffic backing up."

The road was closed in both directions between the Kingswood Road junction and the A464 Holyhead Road junction.
