Delays after man is killed by train in Midlands

A man was killed when he was hit by a train in the Midlands, causing delays for bank holiday travellers.

The man was struck near Dudley Port station at about 6.15am yesterday.

Trains were suspended and all lines between Wolverhampton and Birmingham were blocked, leading to delays of almost three hours.

National Express buses and the Midland Metro accepted train tickets held by people affected by the delays.

All services were running again by 9am.

A British Transport Police spokesman said:

"The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Details of his identity are currently unknown and inquires are ongoing.

"The matter is not being treated as suspicious."
