Letters supporting the idea have been sent to mother-of-two Emma Gledhill, who is running a campaign to see the number of designated spaces in the town increased. She has received just three letters against the idea.

It comes as consultation is being run by Market Drayton Town Council to see what demand there is for parent and child parking. People have until April 30 to have their say.

Mrs Gledhill, 33, who collected 50 signatures on a petition last year to trigger the public consultation, said: "We need people to stand up and say whether they are in support of this."

More than 100 residents have signed up in favour of changes to car parking in Market Drayton.

A consultation into the demand for parent and child parking spaces in the town was launched by the town council in March and is set to end on April 30.

The working group set up by the council put a form in the community magazine, the Drayton Messenger to see if there was a demand for more of the specialised spaces.

Mayor Tim Beckett said: "It is due to be discussed at the community and governance meeting which is next month.

"We should have the results back from the survey that went out to the whole town in the Messenger."

Meanwhile, a separate initiative was set up by mum-of-two Emma Gledhill.

Mrs Gledhill's campaign has seen 139 letters of support for an increase in the number of spaces while she has received only three against the idea.

The 33-year-old said: "We have been sending letters out to some of the local schools and a lot of people have sent letters back.

"There is still time to give back the letters, we need people to stand up and say whether they are in support of this."

Last year, Mrs Gledhill collected 50 signatures of support in a petition last year and prompted a public consultation.

But after people in the town raised concerns that not enough residents were approached, the council launched the fresh consultation putting the idea in the Drayton Messenger.

All forms should be completed and returned to the town hall in Frogmore Road by April 30.
