Letter: Excellent treatment and care at surgery and two hospitals

There is a lot of adverse publicity at present surrounding the NHS.

I feel that very little of this type of publicity should be levelled at the staff at what we call the sharp end, but few people seem to speak about the excellent work the under-strength staff put into the system.

Over the last few months my wife has had to visit our surgery, Riverside Medical Practice.

Throughout this time she was treated by various doctors at the practice all of whom were excellent whilst doing a very demanding job. As a result of these visits we subsequently had to visit both the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital, being treated in the main by Dr Eardley and his team.

I would like to thank Dr Eardley and his teams both at RSH and PRH for the first class treatment my wife received. She had a couple of short stays on the acute medical unit at RSH where her treatment was excellent which was all due to the caring professional attitude of all the staff.

On a few occasions whilst attending outpatients we had to use the wheelchair access transport to and from the hospitals. Again the arrangements were very good and the drivers were most helpful and polite, nothing was too much trouble for them

On two occasions over the last few months my wife was taken to hospital by ambulance. Yet again the crews were very caring and professional.

My wife became very ill and sadly passed away in the acute medical unit at the RSH. However, the care and compassion shown to both my family and myself at this sad time by the doctors and staff on the ward was first class. Also the bereavement service at the hospital was most helpful.

Thank you once again for the manner in which you carried out your tasks under very stressful circumstances.
