Three West Mercia Police officers and a staff member have "cases to answer for misconduct" over the handling of previous incidents involving the killer of teenager Georgia Williams.

The four will now face misconduct meetings following the conclusion of an independent investigation carried out by Devon and Cornwall Police.

Five other officers have been told they have no case to answer, although two of those will be subject to "management action".

The investigation was launched following Jamie Reynolds's conviction for the murder of 17-year-old Georgia.

It relates to more than one incident involving Reynolds, including one where he was cautioned by police in 2008 when, aged 17, he lured a girl back to his house in Avondale Road, Wellington, Telford.

He used the pretence of a photo shoot and tried to strangle the girl in an attack that foreshadowed Georgia's murder in 2013.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Assistant Chief Constable Russ Middleton has determined three police officers and one staff member have a case to answer for misconduct and have been referred to a misconduct meeting.

"The other five police officers have no case to answer for misconduct but two of those officers will be subject to management action and the remaining three will have no further action taken against them."

The spokesman said Georgia's parents had been informed of the investigation's findings and that West Mercia Police would now handle the misconduct meetings.

He said: "The independent investigation has now concluded and the final report will be passed to West Mercia Police to progress the misconduct matters and consider the organisational recommendations for improvement."

West Mercia Police confirmed they would now look to proceed with the misconduct meetings. Alexa Collicott, spokeswoman for the force, said: "West Mercia Police can confirm that, subject to appeal from the complainants, four misconduct meetings will take place following the independent investigation by Devon and Cornwall Police into the handling of previous incidents involving Jamie Reynolds.

"These are in relation to three officers and one member of police staff. A further five officers were found to have no misconduct case to answer but two will be subject to management action as a result of the investigation.

"It would be inappropriate for the force to comment further on until the misconduct meetings have concluded."
