Mr Cameron sent the "deepest condolences" of the House to Mrs Adey's family and friends after she was one of 23 people killed in shootings at the Bardo Museum in the Tunisian capital Tunis on Wednesday. His words were echoed by Labour leader Ed Miliband.

But Mr Cameron yesterday defended bombing Libya and removing Colonel Gaddafi from power after it emerged terrorists who attacked the museum may have trained in the country.

Mrs Adey, 57, had been visiting the museum with her husband Robert as part of a Mediterranean cruise when two gunmen opened fire. Mr Adey, 52, was unharmed and has since returned to Britain.

Tributes have also been paid by neighbours of the couple, from Caynton, near Albrighton.
