Telford bus driver robbed while on route

A bus driver has been robbed for a handful of £1 coins while out on a route in Telford.

West Mercia Police is appealing for witnesses to the robbery that occurred in Brookside, Telford on Thursday afternoon.

The robbery happened between 3.30pm and 3.45pm when the bus driver, was driving a bus through Brookside when she stopped at a bus stop adjacent to Bembridge.

A man got on to the bus and handed over money for the bus fair to the driver, as is policy the note was checked with an ultra violet torch which showed the note was counterfeit. At which point, the man reached through the gap in the plastic security glass of the drivers cabin and grabbed the bus drivers hand and took his money back as well as a handful of £1 coins.

The man then exited the bus and ran off in the direction of Brookside.

A police spokesman said: "The suspect is described as a white man around 5ft 7 and of a slim build. He is described as having dark brown hair with a long fringe, he was wearing a dark top and dark trousers."

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to call PC Tyson at Malinsgate Police Station on 101, quoting incident 433 of March 12.
