Daniel Jeffrey Rust, 23, from Telford, was part of a group of six who took part in the riot where TVs were thrown, and all CCTV cameras in one part of the prison were smashed when violence erupted, causing £170,000 of damage.

Stafford Crown Court heard how prisoners were being locked in their cells when a number began throwing items of prison property, smashing furnishings and cleaning materials.

Staff were forced to withdraw when inmates became verbally aggressive and intimidating.

The prisoners became increasingly verbally aggressive and threatening, forcing staff to withdraw.

Windows were broken and traps were placed on landings and stairwells to obstruct staff during the trouble, which lasted for several hours before being brought under control at around 2am on January 6 last year.

Six men were charged and dealt with by Stafford Crown Court today. Four were told to stay behind bars for longer, while two were returned to prison.

All six men were involved in disorder at HMP Oakwood in Featherstone when it began at about 5pm.

Det Sgt Jim Callaghan, from Staffordshire Police, said: "We worked closely with prison officials to carry out a thorough and detailed investigation.

"I hope today's sentencing sends out a clear message to those who commit such crime, and create disorder - they will be subject to a swift and thorough investigation.

"We remain committed to bringing those who commit such crime to justice."
