Strike assurance by Shropshire fire crews

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has assured the public that they will respond to emergency calls during planned strike action next week.

Members of the Fire Brigade Union will go on strike for 24 hours on February 25 because of a long-running row with the Government over their pensions.

It will affect how fire stations in communities across Shropshire are covered.

But Malcolm Stevenson, spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue, said: "Emergency calls for fires and rescues will be dealt with during the strike and contingency plans are in place to ensure that response calls will not be affected by the strike.

"We would ask people to call us if they have a real emergency and if needed we will respond in the normal way.

"We would also ask the public to think twice before dialling 999 during the strike."
