Darwin Fest is being coordinated by The Shropshire Wildlife Trust, which has a host of events from talks to mud walks. The festival aims to promote events, walks and talks which celebrate Darwin's life and achievements.

Charles Darwin was responsible for developing the theory of evolution through the process of natural selection

One of the highlights will be the opening of a part of Darwin's garden to the public.

Charles Darwin was born in 1809 in The Mount, which overlooks Shrewsbury, and includes a walled garden, woodland and river.

The festival opened last night with St Chad's Choir performing Choral Evensong with guest preacher Reverend Dr Gareth Leyshon.
