Five cases have been linked to the Albrighton area in recent weeks where the phone scam is used to get people to hand over their bank details.

Police have issued an urgent appeal after some of those targeted had money taken from their account.

The victims are contacted by telephone and various stories are used to trick people into thinking they are victims of bank account fraud.

The scam has also been carried out across the country and in some cases a courier is sent to collect the bank cards.

Police are warning people to never give out their PIN numbers.

The force has advised that banks and police would not ask for such information over the phone and would not come to a house to collect them.

All police officers would be carrying a warrant card and would wait outside if anyone had any doubts about who they were.

Anyone who receives such a call is asked call the police on 999 from another phone or 101 if it has happened in the past.
