The animal, called Johnny, became trapped in the transporter, straddled over the partition section as it travelled on the A41 Forton Roundabout in Newport at about 9.45am this morning.

But fire crews from Newport and Wellington freed the horse by removing the animal separation panel using a saw and other small tools.

The horse was freed within an hour.
