Flood alerts issued for River Severn in Shropshire

Flood alerts have been put in place for areas in Shropshire along the River Severn.

They relate to Crew Green, Montford, Welsh Bridge, Buildwas and Bridgnorth.

The status of the alerts will be updated at 4pm if the situations changes.

A flood alert means that flooding is possible and to be prepared.

There are currently 49 in place across the country following periods of rainfall and wild weather.

Meanwhile, firefighters today urged motorists to clear their cars of ice properly before driving.

Crews from Wellington Fire Station said they have seen people travelling with only a small area of glass cleared on the windscreens.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Don't be like them. Take time and clear frost"
