The 31st Telford 10k run saw elite and fun runners pound the paths of Telford Town Park.

A record number of 860 entries from across Shropshire and beyond took part in yesterday's race, organised by Telford Athletics Club.

It was won by John Beattie, from Newham and Essex Beagles, in a time of 29 minutes and 55 seconds.

Second placed went to Steve Mitchell, from Bristol & West, with Cardiff AC runner Kevin Seaward finishing third.

Former Shrewsbury School pupil Oliver Mott, who now lives in Bristol, was the highest placed Shropshire runner finishing in 19th. The highest placed runner competing for a Shropshire club was Jon Bowie, of Mercia Fell Runners, who came 28th.

Rebecca Robinson from Kendal AAC was the fastest lady. Former three time winner Claire Martin, running for Telford AC, was the highest placed Shropshire female, in fifth place.

Club secretary Paul Sanderson said: "The conditions were pretty good for all the runners but no records were broken. The winner finished in a good time and there were 12 runners who all finished in less than 31 minutes."
