Nigel Pugh, 53, was working under the vehicle on a drive in Burleydam Road, Ightfield, near Whitchurch, when the accident happened at about 4.45pm on Thursday.

Neighbours believe Mr Pugh, of Darliston, near Whitchurch, was renting part of the site where the accident happened.

His family was too upset to talk today.

Steve Parry, a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "On arrival at the scene crews found a man, who was lying on the floor and was receiving basic life support from fire crews.

"Ambulance personnel quickly assessed the man and immediately commenced advanced life support techniques.

"Unfortunately, despite best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed deceased at the scene."

A spokeswoman for the coroner's office for Shropshire confirmed they had been informed and that his inquest is likely to be opened in the next two weeks.
