The house where child killer Mark Bridger murdered schoolgirl April Jones should be knocked down as soon as possible, her mother said today.

Coral Jones also hopes Bridger will die in prison "soon" and said her struggle to come to terms with her daughter's death is getting "harder and harder".

She said of her daughter, who was aged just five: "I think about you every day. My heart will never be the same after the way you were taken from your family that love you so much.

"We will be glad when that house is knocked down. As it stands now it is a reminder how you were taken from us and what you must have gone through.

"He can't hurt anyone else as he is in jail and will be there until the day he's dead, which I wish would be soon. You will get your headstone soon my baby girl, April. You should get it by Christmas."

She added: "I am not strong like I used to be when you were with us. He took that away from me and I can't forgive. I have made new friends but lost some of my old friends.

"I've been told it gets easier as time goes on. But for me it gets harder and harder."

Mrs Jones also said that April's brother Harley and sister Jazz were doing "okay", but her husband Paul did not talk about his feelings. She added: "Jazz and Harley – it's hard for them but they are doing okay. Paul, I can't say how he's doing as he does not tell me. But one thing, I will keep writing things on Facebook even if some people don't like it when I say things about it."

"He's not just hurt my family, he's hurt a few families by what he has done.

"One thing he can't take from us is the love we have for you, April. That will never change. I love you with all my heart."

Bridger snatched April while she played outside her home on the Bryn y Gog Estate in Machynlleth shortly after 7pm on October 1, 2012. He kidnapped her and murdered her in a sexually motivated attack.

Her body has never been found, but police believe former slaughterman Bridger cut up her body and disposed of it in various locations in the countryside around his home in Ceinws.

The Welsh Assembly has announced it has bought the house and will knock it down in the coming months.

Bridger was found guilty of April's abduction and murder at Mold Crown Court in May 2013. He was given a whole life sentence.
