The burglary at the home off the A458 at Venus Bank in Cound, near Shrewsbury, was discovered this morning by a house-sitter.

It is not yet known if anything was taken and police are investigating.

Inspector Andy Smith of West Mercia Police said: "Somebody was looking after the property while the owners are away for a few days and went round to discover it had been broken into."

He said police offers, including a forensics team, had been to the house and started an investigation.

"But because the occupants are away there are no details as to what might have been taken at the moment," he said.

"As far as I know it doesn't form part of a pattern in the area, but we would advise residents to take the usual precautions in making sure their property is secure at night or if they go away," he added.

Anyone who has any information or saw anyone acting suspiciously around the property on Friday night or Saturday morning can call West Mercia Police on 101.
