It will open in Telford Shopping Centre on October 14.

The store will be in competition to JD Sports, which already has a large branch within the shopping centre.

And it will be the second Sports Direct in Telford, operating along with the existing warehouse store on the town's Wrekin Retail Park.

Sports Direct spokeswoman Laura Hudson said: "We are delighted to be opening our new store in Telford.

"As our company continues to grow throughout the UK, our ethos has never changed in that we offer our customers the biggest brands in all types of sportswear, footwear and sports equipment."

Founded in 1982, the company is now the UK's largest sporting retailer with more than 400 stores nationwide, including branches in Shrewsbury and Oswestry.

It is owned by millionaire businessman and Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley.

The arrival of Sports Direct is the latest boost to Telford town centre, which has already seen scores of jobs created through the new Southwater development.
