Motorcyclist injured in Shropshire crash

A motorcyclist was taken to hospital after a crash with a car that left a Shropshire road closed just before rush hour.

The road at Balmer Heath, near Ellesmere,was closed to traffic for more than an hour following a collision between a motorcycle and a car.

The 18-year-old motorcyclist was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken by ambulance to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with leg injuries.

The driver of the car was unharmed.

The accident took place on the B5063 near the junction with the A495 at Welshampton at about 3.30pm yesterday.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "The road was blocked at about 3.35pm, and was closed while police arranged for recovery of the bike."

The road was reopened later in the afternoon.
