Constable Vinod Kumar Dahiya, 45, of Muxton, had been suspended from West Mercia Police for almost a year from July 4, 2013 and August 15, 2014 on full pay.

He has returned to "non-operational duties" according to a force spokeswoman and will remain office-based until a review into whether he will face misconduct proceedings is complete.

Last month he was cleared at Stafford Crown Court of a charge of rape, alleged to have happened in June last year, and another of common assault said to have occurred on May 15 last year, after a jury was unable to reach a verdict and the prosecution offered no evidence.

Mr Dahiya had also been found not guilty by a jury at the same court of a further charge of raping a woman in May last year.

Mr Dahiya had denied all of the charges against him.

A West Mercia Police spokeswoman said: "All the evidence is now being considered with a view to what, if any, proceedings there will be under the police misconduct regulations.

"It will be a few weeks before we have all the information we need to make a decision on the next step."

The Crown Prosecution Service previously confirmed it would not seek a retrial.
