Elderly man 'told to die' by driver near Telford

An able-bodied young motorist swore at a frail, elderly man and told him to "die" when he was asked to move his car which was blocking two disabled parking bays.

The encounter outside the Spar shop in Shawbirch on Saturday morning was overheard by a shocked young father and his four-year-old daughter.

The dad, who has asked not to be named, said the driver was aged about 20 and had parked his car over two disabled spaces.

"He pulled in with music blaring and there were plenty of normal spaces free.

"The old man was walking with a stick. He had wanted to park in the disabled area and now he couldn't."

The older man spoke to the younger driver outside the shop and received a mouthful of abuse in return, said the eyewitness.

"It's absolutely wrong," he added. "It's not as if there was anything wrong with the lad."

The younger driver went into the Shawbirch pharmacy before driving off. But an eyewitness took a picture.
